Without enough hands-on practice, unintentional harm becomes too risky.
no simulation lab + little to no return demonstrations = HUGE RISK
As an RN with decades of experience, I am well acquainted with the challenges in medically complex healthcare and root cause analysis is something I've always been passionate about.
So, after several trach-dependent patients had experienced unintentional harm at home, I spent hundreds of hours of research on not only figuring out the root cause, but how we can fix it.

However, we also want to acknowledge how hard you've worked to train and prepare your caregivers for service.
We understand how much is on your plate as you try to meet budget and time constraints, plus take great care of patients and families at the same time.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to a systemic issue that can be solved with an educational upgrade.

Small Classroom
By having only 8 caregivers at a time, the instructor is able to give each student an optimal amount of attention and one-on-one help when a skill doesn't click.
Real Equipment & Supplies
Caregivers are able to practice with the same medical equipment, tools, and supplies used in hospital and home care settings.
Muscle Memory Development
Practicing on mannequins helps caregivers get used to the equipment and supplies. It builds muscle memory and improves their response time without worrying about the risk of harm.
Return Demonstrations & Coaching
Executing real-life scenarios in a safe setting helps them perform each skill and validate their abilities. Get one-on-one help when a skill doesn't click.

Patients
Caregivers educated in our simulation lab can help medically complex patients feel better and safer.
Families
Parents, guardians, and other loved ones are able to feel much more secure and hopeful about the future.
Caregivers
An in-person, hands-on education in our simulation lab is designed to build confidence and reduce anxiety.
Management
Clinical leaders should be able to free up bandwidth, redirect energy to other priorities, and reduce stress.
Staff
Better-prepared, well-educated caregivers can help ease stress and strengthen workplace culture.
Executives
Lowered risk for unintentional harm and improved client satisfaction supports optimal company metrics.

Leslie Elder, MSN, RN
Founder & Lead Instructor | BreatheWell Inspiration
Hi, I'm Leslie.
When a medically complex child died at home because the caregivers and paramedics didn't know how to save the patient's life, I was heartbroken for the child, their grieving family, and the traumatized caregivers who were responsible that day.
That's what led me to do my research into the root cause and, subsequently, the idea to bring the concept of the simulation lab into medically complex caregiving. I started by co-creating the Trach Safe Initiative at Seattle Children's Hospital and taught many nurses there, but the curriculum needed to go public.
So, after 33 years at Seattle Children's as an RN in the pulmonary unit, I retired and launched BreatheWell Inspiration because I have a tremendous amount of compassion for medically complex patients, their families, and for every single caregiver who steps forward to take care of them.
Options for educating your caregivers:

Here's what our clients have been saying about our hands-on upgrade.
Erica Wojtysiak, RN
"I encourage nurses and caregivers caring for those with trachs to take Leslie's courses. The hands-on practice and knowledge gained from these courses builds confidence and a skill set."
Becky Norem, MSN-Ed, BSN, RN, NCSN
"We sent four nurses to the tracheostomy training. Upon return, they all said the training was fantastic and challenged them to think of how things can be done better and safer. They also raved at how fantastic a trainer Leslie is. We will be signing up for more training very soon!"
Amy, MSN, RN
"I wish I had taken the Tracheostomy Emergency Airway Management class five years ago. It would have reduced the amount of anxiety and trauma I experienced during the emergencies I encountered."
